Did you know? Studies suggest that new couples gain weight right after the wedding or once they consider a relationship 'secure'.
This happens for many reasons. A primary reason is that for some months before the ceremony, couples go on quick, restrictive diets to look their best on the wedding day – and the very next day they dive into all the treats they missed.
Of course, newlyweds tend to go out to eat more often with friends and relatives until they settle into their new routine. This sometimes leads to weight gain from more sodium, fried food, bigger portions and alcohol.
In addition, until a new couple finds its daily rhythm, it will experiment, keep unusual hours, get stressed, cook fattier meals (to make them tastier), etc. You already know the result: weight gain, lack of vitamins and trace elements, etc.
All this can have negative effects on metabolism and the body. That's why I'll show you some tips below to prevent these situations:
- Don't go on restrictive diets or cut out entire food groups before the wedding.
- Choose the Mediterranean diet throughout your life.
- Drink enough water throughout the day. You can also drink tea (green tea, lemon verbena, dandelion etc.), which helps eliminate toxins and is diuretic and antioxidant.
- Avoid anxiety and situations that put you under pressure and create stress.
- With your partner's help, try to create a steady daily routine for meals and get organised at the weekend.
- Avoid buying treats for the house, e.g. crisps, chocolate etc. Choose cereal bars, nuts, fruit, rice cakes, multigrain biscuits etc. instead.
- Take your other half and find a shared time in the day to go for a walk! Exercise helps the body breathe, raises serotonin levels and improves your fitness. Combined with the company of your loved one, it will be the most special moment of the day.
- When the round of family meals begins, try to stick to the portion on your plate and avoid picking. Don't forget your salad before, during and at the end of the meal.
- Try to have only 1 sweet treat a week. However, if you have a sweet tooth, you can make smart, healthy sweet choices for breakfast and snacks.
If you manage to follow even some of the rules above… Congratulations, you've achieved a healthy lifestyle!
